Where is Wroclaw?

Wroclaw is one of the largest cities in southwest Poland. It lies in the centre of Europe at the crossroads between east and west. The German border is 150 kilometres to the west while the Czech Republic is 100 kilometres to the south-west following the E67.

One of Poland's main motorway routes (the E40) runs across the city. Follow this north-west to Berlin or Dresden or south-east to Krakow and continue to Ukraine. The E67 takes you to Lodz and Warsaw in just over 3 hours.

Our serviced apartments in Wroclaw are centrally located and are close to local amenities.

Business Opportunities in Wroclaw

Poland has shown steady economic growth and stable GDP: its development rate has been the highest in Europe in recent years. Wroclaw is one of the largest Polish industrial and commercial centres and offers unlimited opportunities for investment and relocation. The Polish government is known to be business-friendly and has created the ideal circumstances for business development. These include reliable infrastructure, a transparent taxation system, and public funding.

Wroclaw has several free economic zones established to cater for foreign investors and outsource enterprises. Over one hundred big names have moved their factories and logistics centres here, among them LG, Toyota, and Lufthansa. The biggest office centre in the city is Business Garden Wroclaw. This hosts the offices of such giants as Credit Swisse, EY, IBM, and Google.

In recent years, Wroclaw has become the Silicon Valley of Poland. The ICT industry has flourished here more than anywhere else in the country. Good connections to western European capitals, low business costs, and proximity to the capital Warsaw make it an ideal location for IT start-ups and big players.

Thanks to its location, Wroclaw receives a lot of German investors who are interested in the construction and real estate of the city. The new and second-hand real estate markets offer sufficient variety with low overheads and flexible payment schemes. Another flourishing sector in Wroclaw is education, especially private academies that provide vocational training and further education.

Wroclaw is an attractive investment option in Poland thanks to its large and mobile population of 650,000 people and a very low unemployment rate. The city receives over five million tourists a year who arrive at a modern airport serving over seventy regular flights. With average salaries of over 1000 euros a month, rental properties here provide the highest profit margins in Europe.

Wroclaw is home to one of the most remarkable exhibition centres in Poland, the Centennial Hall. It can be used as a multi-purpose exhibition ground and a recreational building thanks to its adaptable halls and flexible arena. The Centennial Hall hosts regular cultural and business events, such as the Wagner Opera Festival in 2006 and regular basketball competitions.

Things to Do in Wroclaw

Wroclaw is a stunning city, proud of its millennial history and justly named the European Cultural Capital in 2016. There are vast green spaces and blooming parks, and an eclectic blend of architectural styles from medieval gothic to glorious Renaissance. The city is spread over a dozen islands on the Oder, connected by numerous bridges which adds to its unique charm.

Millions of tourists are drawn here by the city’s many museums, music festivals, and fairs. Wroclaw’s expat community is a varied mix of employees of multinational companies and individual entrepreneurs.

Polish is the national language, but English will be spoken in many establishments and international offices. Poland’s national currency is the złoty. Despite being an EU member, the country doesn’t use the Euro. Conversion rates are easy to follow, and cash can be exchanged at many currency exchange points around the city.

Polish cuisine dominates in the local restaurants and cafés. However, international food is well represented by Korean and Japanese, Italian, and fusion restaurants. Atmospheric cocktail bars and gastropubs cater for the more sophisticated foreign audience here.

Staying in self-catering accommodation in Wroclaw allows corporate travellers to be flexible. Sample Polish cuisine in the city’s amazing restaurants, or buy local produce and cook and eat in our well-appointed kitchens and spacious dining areas.

Transport

By Air

Wroclaw international airport is located 12 kilometres to the west of the city. It offers more than 70 regular flights to main European and holiday destinations. There is also an extensive passenger infrastructure, including a comfortable executive lounge and plenty of shops and restaurants.

The best way to get to the city is by bus line 106. Buses to the central railway station depart from the airport every 15 minutes and make multiple stops on the way. The trip takes around 40 minutes.

By Rail

The main service provider for railroad transport in Wroclaw is the Polish Trains company. Passengers can choose from express inter-city trains used for domestic travel (EIC trains) and comfortable long-distance EuroCity trains for international destinations. Wroclaw is located on the crossing of two major train lines that connect it to Warsaw, Poznan, Gdansk and Berlin, Dresden and Prague.

Tickets can be bought online from the official Polish Trains company website. Reservations are required for EuroCity trains but are optional for inter-city trains. The Express InterCity Premium travel option is a comfortable express train for domestic travel with obligatory reservation.

Travellers need to be aware that all destinations will be written in their Polish spelling on all timetables.

By Bus

Wroclaw boasts an efficient system of city transport which includes buses and trams. Daytime routes operate from 5 am to 11 pm and from 6 am to 10 pm during weekends. Night-time routes 240 and 259 run between 11 pm and 5 am and the tickets are slightly more expensive.

All travel can be paid for with the Urban Card. This is a top-up contactless card that can be pre-paid for a monthly or seasonal ticket. Single-use tickets can be bought from vending machines at bus stops (pay in cash or by card) or on board (card only).

Look out for the word Biletomat on the side of the buses. It means that there is a ticket vending machine on board the bus. Not all buses or bus stops have vending machines. A single-use ticket allows no changes. Twenty-four tickets are also available. There are 15-, 30-, and 60-minute tickets and a 2- and 3-day option as well. These tickets are useful for routes with several changes during the day.
