About Warrington

Overview

Although sometimes seen as ‘that place between Manchester and Liverpool’, Warrington in fact has a rich history and is a large town of over 200,000 people with plenty of its own industry and business.

Once part of Lancashire, Warrington is now in modern day Cheshire, but despite being proclaimed as a new town after World War II there has in fact been a permanent settlement in the area since Roman times, as it is a crossing point for the River Mersey.  And, indeed, Warrington holds a notable place in recent history thanks to the World War II RAF base at Burtonwood, which was the largest airfield for the U.S. Air Force outside of America at the time, and hosted well-known stars like Humphrey Bogart when they came to entertain the troops.

Corporate travellers coming to stay in serviced apartments in Warrington may well, of course, be making use of its excellent location between the busy port of Liverpool and the large city of Manchester, and its closeness to the busy M6.  However, despite the proximity of large retail areas like Manchester’s Trafford Centre, much of Warrington’s economy lies within the retail sector.  It is famous for being chosen as the site of the first IKEA store in the UK.

As well as being close to the M6 and convenient for international airports in Manchester and Liverpool, Warrington also has two major train stations with lines running up and down the country and more locally, keeping it well-connected with the rest of the UK and beyond.  There’s plenty to do for those who are staying longer in the area, and high on that list has to be Warrington Museum & Art Gallery.  There are also plenty of historic houses and associated gardens nearby, such as Walton Hall and the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden.
