Guests staying in a Stansted aparthotel and using the airport will find that it has the usual excellent range of facilities expected of a major airport.
Stansted, otherwise known as London Stansted Airport, is named for the nearby village of Stansted Mountfitchet, which sits just across the M11 from the airport and has a train station on the greateranglia line. Stansted Airport itself also has a train station, which is again on the greateranglia line, as well as receiving CrossCountry services. Business travellers seek serviced apartments near Stansted because, despite being some 42 miles northeast of Central London, it is one of the UK’s busiest airports, usually only outcompeted by Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. The airport flies to over 170 destinations, principally across Europe, North Africa and the Americas. It is a base for many of the main low-cost airlines, who have cheap flights running across a variety of European destinations. It is notable, however, that more domestic routes like Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow remain the airport’s busiest by some way.
Stansted is in Essex, although only just, as it is less than a mile from the Hertfordshire border. The M11 cuts the M25 and continues up northward past Stansted and on towards Cambridge, making it easy to come and go to London. As with most major airports, Stansted feels a little bit like a town in itself. It is the newest of the main London airports and, as such, boasts a smart main terminal building. As well as the main terminal building, there are three satellite buildings in which the gates are located, and also the Advance Passenger Vehicle (APV), an additional gate building used during busy periods.
Guests staying in a Stansted aparthotel and using the airport will find that it has the usual excellent range of facilities expected of a major airport. Shopping ranges from the sensible, such as Dixons Travel, Boots and WH Smiths, to the ‘I never knew I wanted this at an airport until now’, the best example of this probably being the presence of a Hamleys toy store. There are also, of course, an excellent range of clothes stores, fragrance and skincare stores and the duty-free store. If you’re at Stansted for a short stay, you will also find a good choice of eateries, from fast food like Burger King and Pret, to the likes of Wetherspoon’s and a variety of other restaurants and coffee houses.
There are some days out that you might want to try nearby while staying in our Stansted accommodation. The Imperial War Museum is about 15 miles away in Duxford, and the 17th century country house of Audley End is about 9 miles away and belongs to English Heritage. London and Cambridge are both reachable for days out, as are Chelmsford and Colchester. A little closer, Mountfitchet has its own castle. Well… a reconstructed one. The site has been an Iron Age fort, a settlement for Romans, Saxons and Vikings, and then later a Norman castle. Destroyed in the 13th century, it has now been rebuilt as a mediaeval motte and bailey castle, providing an educational experience that is truly unique.
