About Richmond

Overview

Richmond is a desirable outer district of London, with great riverside locations and a vast, well-known park. Staying in Richmond furnished housing makes staying in this popular district easy and straightforward.

Unsurprisingly based in the London Borough of Richmond, is the suburban town of Richmond, populated by around 200,000. The borough, which is often described as covering a broad area of southwest London, and the small town is based just alongside the eastern edge of the River Thames.

Richmond is also one of London’s more desirable districts. A little way out from the centre, the town is not defined purely by its relationship to the city, but as a retail centre and destination in its own right.

Contributing to this sense of identity, is the extensive, well-recognised Richmond Park. Covering nearly 10km2, the park is embedded with a long history and stands out as one of the largest and most popular parks in the capital. If that wasn’t enough regarding greenspace, to the north of Richmond is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Slightly different though, this garden is internationally invaluable as a place for research and educational activities. All of this green space which surrounds the district can be within easy access of those who book stays in Situ’s fully furnished Richmond serviced apartments.

Staying in Richmond also means having great access to a wide range of transportation facilities, enabling easy travel across the area and beyond. For instance, the town has both an overground and underground station right in its centre, ensuring travel into London is simple, whilst Heathrow Airport is just a thirty-minute drive to the west of Richmond. This means long-distance domestic and overseas flights are just on the doorstep of those in Richmond. Of course, the intersecting A316 road is also ideal, connecting to both the M3 and M4 with ease. This makes staying in Richmond corporate housing convenient in terms of transport connectivity.

BUSINESS & ECONOMY OF RICHMOND

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is renowned for its dynamic economy, which obviously filters down to Richmond as a town. The borough has always had a proud reputation for recording fantastic business growth particularly in the sector of business services. There is also a belief that the growth of the tourism sector will continue to play a big role in the success of the overall economy,

It is evident that the town and borough are both characterised by its businesses and their workforces. They generate the growth of the area, particularly micro-businesses, who have grown in numbers and represent a high presence across Richmond.

To find out more about business support, in the forms of funding, advice or networking opportunities, be sure to visit the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames website. Here you can learn more about the area, not just in terms of business either, but also regarding the borough’s social economic and environmental status.

Whether business travellers are visiting the town for a short business trip, or plan to relocate yourself and your company here, Richmond corporate accommodation provides stays that can make the whole process stress-free and practical.

HISTORY OF RICHMOND

Many credits the foundation of the London town to the moment the Richmond Palace was constructed in the sixteenth century. The palace though was named after an earldom of Henry VII, based in North Yorkshire. This was all after the area was actually deemed to be called ‘Shene’, up until the fourteenth century.

Besides the Richmond Palace, much of the area surrounding it was agricultural, and as you can expect Richmond Park was at the heart of this. Development did emerge though by the eighteenth century. Hunting culture grew in Richmond, and several large, important houses arose. Popularity forced the town to grow and develop. For instance, the 1770s saw the build of the Richmond Bridge, designed to connect the town centre and Twickenham across the River Thames.

Other natural developments included the increase in shops and luxurious housing, making Richmond one of London’s higher-class locations. Growth also meant that Richmond became integrated into Greater London by the twentieth century, and eventually, formed part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, the only London borough to cover land on either side of the River Thames.

A great way to enjoy a deeper insight into the local history of the town and borough as a whole would be to book stays in Richmond extended stay apartments near the Museum of Richmond, just on the edge of the River Thames. It's perfect for learning more about the area’s rich history.

THINGS TO DO IN RICHMOND

As one of London’s more recognised district’s, there is naturally plenty to do in Richmond. The first thing you’ll see when you’ll most likely see when you first arrive in the town is the Richmond Theatre. The venue is remarkable, welcoming over a quarter of a million people there every year who collectively watch over forty productions put on a show all year round. It’s certainly well worth a visit for those who love a musical or family entertainment, and anyone can book stays in Richmond temporary housing to be just a minutes walks from the venue.

Venture further into the town though and you will find a centre which is packed with Richmond restaurants, high-end shops, pubs and convenient supermarkets. Again it is important to remember the Museum of Richmond, just outside the town centre, a popular attraction for history enthusiasts.

All of this is based on the eastern bank of the River Thames, an iconic attraction in itself. Visitors to the area can get a view of the Thames in all it’s glory from the Richmond Bridge. On either side of the bridge, there are Cambridge Gardens and Rotary Gardens. These are both lovely spots where anyone can relax and enjoy river views and the, hopefully, good weather. Richmond Green is also commonly visited, in the town centre.

However, when it comes to scenery and greenspace around Richmond, it is hard to look beyond both Richmond Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Both are great for walks and have so much to see and visit, making for a great day out with the family or a group of friends or colleagues.

On the whole, Richmond has a vast amount to offer. Whether it be great attractions, a promising business climate or successful economy, even stays in Richmond short term accommodation enable guests to enjoy it all!
