About Philadelphia

Overview

Philadelphia, or ‘Philly’ as it’s often known, could be said to be the place where the United States was born. The influence of the Founding Fathers continues to be felt in what is now a modern, vibrant and multi-cultural city.

Why Choose Serviced Apartments in Philadelphia?

Furnished corporate housing in Philadelphia is a fantastic choice for business travellers who want their own private space. Each property offers its own cooking, dining and washing facilities, which you wouldn’t get in a hotel room, and all at a very competitive rate.

Situ’s luxury apartments in Philadelphia are also well-maintained, with housekeeping services and on-site laundry facilities (washer and dryer) available across our entire range. However, if you want to dine out, rather than cook for yourself, of course, you can go to any of the excellent restaurants in the city. Ultimately, with serviced accommodation, the choice is yours.

Serviced apartments and corporate rentals can also be much more convenient than hotel rooms as places to do business. Guests have access to free Wi-Fi, open living areas and some buildings even have professional meeting rooms or at least places to enjoy a coffee. 'Choice' really is the keyword here – you choose a Situ fully equipped, serviced apartment in Philadelphia that offers what you want.

Where is Philadelphia?

Philadelphia is in the state of Pennsylvania, in the northeast of the United States. The city is actually located in the very easternmost part of Pennsylvania. Just by leaving the city limits across the Delaware River, you’ll find yourself in the state of New Jersey.

Around 1.6 million people are residing within the city limits of Philadelphia, making it the sixth most populous city in the US. The wider Philadelphia metropolitan area, which also encompasses the towns of Camden (in New Jersey) and Wilmington (in the state of Delaware) is home to around six million people.

Around one in nine residents of the city speak Spanish, reflecting its multi-cultural population. Philadelphia is also a Greek word for ‘brotherly love’, and you’re sure to receive a warm welcome here.

The US is a very large country, of course, so even when we consider other cities in the northeast of the country, many of them are still a long way from Philadelphia. It’s 270 miles from here to Boston, 123 miles to Washington D.C and 80 miles to New York. Despite the distances between these cities, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston are sometimes grouped together under the term Northeast Megalopolis.

Many international travellers change planes in New York or other US cities to get to Philly, although there are some direct flights from other countries. Once you’re here, the city also has one of America’s best local subway and rail networks, within walking distance of many different serviced apartments in Philadelphia.

Business in Philadelphia, PA.

The principal industries in the city include oil refining, food processing, telecommunications, health care, professional services, hospitality and construction. Large employers with a presence in Philadelphia include SAP, Merck, Comcast, Deloitte, J.P. Morgan, Apple, AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

Several of the city’s universities are also amongst the largest employers – such as the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Villanova University - and Philadelphia’s well-educated workforce has earnings that are higher than the national average. Unemployment levels in the area reduced dramatically during the late 2010s.

Business networking opportunities in Philadelphia are offered by these organisations:

  • Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia – which hosts regular business seminars and seeks to promote the interests of local business.
  • The Walnut Club – which holds networking events for local businesswomen.
  • Urban Philly Professional Network – which is well-known for its ‘After Work Mixer’ events, aimed at business people aged 25 to 45 from the African American community in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Things to do in Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s Independence Hall could be said to be the birthplace of the modern United States. The United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were both formulated and signed here, and you can book a guided tour of the building.

Over the road, in Independence National Historical Park, you’ll find the Liberty Bell, another iconic symbol of the US. It was originally rung in the 18th century to herald major public announcements in Philadelphia and bears the famous biblical inscription “Proclaim Liberty Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof”.

Independence National Historical Park also contains a museum dedicated to Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers.

For a taste of old-world Philadelphia, don’t miss the row of quaint 17th century terraced houses that is Elfreth’s Alley. Continuing the historical theme, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has a world-class collection of works by Paul Cezanne, Marcel Duchamp, Frank Gehry, Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt and many more.

In modern-day Philadelphia, some of the best restaurants include the American seafood restaurants Vernick and Ocean Prime, and the Italian eateries Vetri Cucina and Ristorante Pesto. However, a visit to the city wouldn’t be complete without sampling the legendary ‘Philly cheesesteak’. Some of the best steaks are served at Dalessandro's and John’s Roast Pork.

Overall, it is evident that there’s more than enough for corporates and tourists to see and do in the city, and all visitors need to do to appreciate it all is book a stay in a long term fully furnished apartment in Philadelphia.
