About Northern Ireland

Popular Locations in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is a beautiful and rugged country with long stretches of stunning coastline. Its troubled history – which for the younger generation has mostly already faded into to become just that, the events of another century –  is undoubtedly still a part of some people’s perception of Northern Ireland, but is nonetheless just one element within a rich history.  Although still less than a hundred years old, the country of Northern Ireland has given rise to prominent sportspeople such as George Best and Rory McIlroy plus a host of well-known poets, musicians, artists and actors, including Van Morrison, Liam Neeson, Kenneth Branagh and Seamus Heaney, to mention but a few.

Many travellers seeking serviced apartments in Northern Ireland will likely be coming to Belfast, or at least flying into the city’s international airport or arriving there by ferry. Belfast is Northern Ireland’s capital and a thriving, modern city. Following the end of ‘The Troubles’, Belfast has undergone an economic and cultural explosion. During the 19th and early 20th century, Belfast was possibly Ireland’s industrial heart and a major centre for shipbuilding, and one must-see experience while staying in accommodation in Belfast is a visit to the Titanic Belfast Museum, where you can learn about the history of the fateful liner that was built in the city.

Follow any of the three main routes west out of Belfast and you will come to Lough Neagh, which is close to the airport and holds the notable title of being the largest lake in the British Isles. There is plenty to do and see in this area; particularly worth a visit are the Oxford Island Nature Reserve, Antrim Castle Gardens and Ram’s Island. Once a popular playground for the gentry, Ram’s Island lies a mile out into the lake and was neglected for many years, the island’s subsequent reclamation by nature provides part of its current charm.

Northern Ireland is also a great country for those who enjoy adventure and outdoor activities.  With miles of breathtaking coastline, there’s always something good to do by the sea there. Portrush in County Antrim is a surfers haven and the ever-growing pastime of coasteering can also be enjoyed in the area. Nature lovers will enjoy seeing the puffins on Rathlin Island, perhaps followed by a food tour in Ballycastle a few miles to the south on the mainland. There are a variety of great cycling and walking routes, too, as well as canoeing and kayaking to suit both the Sunday afternoon canoeist and the adrenaline junkie.

Whether coming for a  rand tour or just for a short stay in Northern Ireland, there’s plenty to do and Situ has apartments to suit, whether you’re after smart city apartments or something of the charming and laid back variety, we have aparthotels and serviced accommodation to suit.
