Areas such as Islington are immediately adjacent to the City of London, which is one of the world’s leading financial centres.

Business in North East London

The North East London region includes some of the areas of London where demand for labour is growing rapidly.

Like all areas of Greater London, the service sector is massively important here. In areas such as Hackney, large numbers of people are employed in professional, technical, or scientific roles. Islington is something of a hub for the telecommunications and information technology sectors. The outer suburbs of the capital are, however, also home to industries such as transport, warehousing, wholesale, manufacturing, and utilities.

Major employers with a presence in North East London include PwC, KPMG, Deloitte, Tesco, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Coca-Cola, and Amazon.

Visiting North East London

North East London has no less than three Premier League football teams, all of them playing in state-of-the-art modern stadia. Arsenal's Emirates Stadium is in Highbury, in the borough of Islington; the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is at the north end of Tottenham High Road; and West Ham United has moved into the Olympic stadium, now called the London Stadium.

The Olympic Park can also be used as a starting point for an attractive walk that takes in the green spaces surrounding the northern section of the River Lea.

Possibly the most isolated spot within the Greater London boundary is Rainham Marshes, a 1,000-acre wetland that is home to numerous bird species.

Much of North East London feels very urban, but a lot of what is now Greater London was once a series of villages. Walthamstow is a great place to visit to see its old-world village charm, with its church and timber-framed houses.

For another slice of country life in the midst of the urban sprawl, visit the National Trust-owned Eastbury Manor in Barking. The 40-metre Great Hall is one of the highlights of this 16th-century house.
