Where is Los Angeles?

Based in the southern section of California, Los Angeles, which is also nicknamed the 'City of Angels', is the second-largest city in the United States. It is, therefore, also the largest city in California and the main seat of Los Angeles County. The city itself has a population of around 4 million people, who occupy land that spans 500 square miles. This is nestled between Angeles National Forest to the northeast and the North Pacific Ocean coastline along the city’s western border.

The landscape is quite diverse, as whilst the land itself is quite desert-dominated, LA is also surrounded by mountain ranges, forests and beaches. Getting around inner Los Angeles can require some patience though. The road and bus network has a reputation for being congested and busy.

Travelling in and out of the city to international locations though is mainly supported by the Los Angeles International Airport, whilst the LA Metro and Interstate 5 and 10 roads are used by locals to travel to other nearby American cities such as Vegas, Phoenix and San Francisco. Corporates can always get in touch with us to discuss their travel plans, and we’ll then source them the best long or short term serviced apartments in Los Angeles based on where they want to be situated in the city.

Expats in Los Angeles

Corporates committing to a long stay in Los Angeles for business will recognise the potential to profit from the city’s economy. It is incredibly diverse, and world-leading in terms of entertainment, aerospace, technological, tourism and international trade industries. Some say that Los Angeles is ‘three-legged’, relying upon aerospace, movies and tourism economically, but nowadays the local economy has diversified greatly, offering many opportunities to explore the city’s huge national and international markets.

The University of Southern California, Walt Disney and Northrop Grumman are amongst the largest employers in the city, which says a lot about the various working options available to the people of LA. The local airport and the seaports are also huge contributors to the city’s status as a major hub of international trade in the Western Hemisphere. Ultimately, the numbers don’t lie when it comes to the Los Angeles economy. With an annual output of over $800 billion and able to rank in the top 20 economies in the world, if the city were a country, there’s no wonder around 200,000 expats take time to enjoy an extended stay in Los Angeles.

The transport infrastructure, funding schemes and available office space only make the prospect of working there more enticing. Hundreds of conferences take place in the city every year because of the city’s popularity as a place for business for overseas corporates. To learn more about why the city is a great place to do business, be sure to visit the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation website, and for a range of fully furnished corporate apartments in Los Angeles which are suited for business travel, get in touch with us!

Life in Los Angeles

Where do we start when talking about things to do in Los Angeles? There's almost too much to see and do. However, we still want to recommend at least some of the best attractions to visit, starting with the iconic Hollywood Sign. Standing at 45 feet tall and 350 feet wide, the sign is truly an American landmark. You can see it atop of Mount Lee up in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Head a few miles west towards the coast and you'll reach the extraordinary Santa Monica Pier. Ideally, access to the pier is completely free, but the likes of the amusement park, the aquarium, the Ferris wheel and the many restaurants will all require you to spend a little; but it's well worth it for a pier experience like no other.

Once you're done walking down Santa Monica Pier, why not take a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard? Similar to the attractions we've already mentioned, the boulevard is an icon site and celebrates the rich history of LA entertainment and film. It begins at Sunset Plaza Drive, and along the walk, you could stop by the star-studded Hollywood Walk of Fame, the iconic Wax Museum, Madame Tussauds or the incredible Dolby or TCL Chinese theatres. Between visiting each site, tourists can embrace the amazing shopping, dining and nightlife experiences on offer, thanks to numerous high-end shops, restaurants and bars along the strip.

Time spent away from your aparthotel in Los Angeles does not have to be entirely focused on the city’s most ‘touristy’ and famous attractions. Sites such as Griffith Park and its Observatory, the Getty venue, the County Museum of Art or the Los Angeles Zoo all offer alternative ways to appreciate the area’s nature, history and culture. Ultimately, there’s so much to see and do in LA, and that’s why we recommend booking a long term stay in one of our luxury furnished apartments in Los Angeles to make sure you don’t miss out on anything!

Transport

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Opened in 1930 and now supporting the travel of nearly 30 million passengers each year, Los Angeles International Airport is the main aviation facility in the city. The airport is half an hour car journey from the Los Angeles city centre, and just down the road from the Dockweiler Beach and Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve.

Guests staying in furnished corporate housing in Los Angeles will appreciate how well connected the airport is with public transport. Scheduled buses, taxis, shuttle services and the Metro C line all enable seamless travel to and from the city’s main airport.

LA Metro

The LA Metro is responsible for the railway network that operates across the city. Consisting of six lines altogether, four being overground and two underground, the network spans over 90 stations and almost 100 miles. Over 300,000 passengers travel on the LA Metro every day.

Lines B & D are subway lines, running both running to Union Station from North Hollywood and Wilshire station respectively. Union Station is significant as it is not only the city’s main railway station but also the busiest of its kind in the ‘Western United States’. It is a true hub of Amtrak trains, which are a huge rail operator in the States.

Buses in LA

The success of the metro and railway system in LA can be partially credited to its links to the free-flowing business network in the city. The Metro Bus system, in particular, ensures all areas of LA are easily reachable. There are over 200 different lines that run daily across the city, to attractions, stations and outskirts destinations.

These buses are varied by colour, as shown below;
Metro Local (Orange) – Frequent stops along major streets
Metro Rapid (Red) – Fewer and more specific stops on the city’s major streets.
Metro Express (Blue) - Reduced stop service along the city’s freeway systems.
Whether you are in a luxury studio apartment in Los Angeles or a multi-bed complex, expats visiting the city should expect to have bus services available to them at all hours.
