About Inverurie

Overview

Inverurie is a town in northeast Scotland, conveniently located between beautiful mountainous countryside and Aberdeen, the major city in the region.

Close to the Cairngorms and the Bennachie Hills is Inverurie, a town with a population of about 14,000. While the town is large enough to include the main amenities expected in a built-up area, serviced apartments in Inverurie have the advantage of giving access to a great area of rugged and breath-taking Scottish countryside, yet is also within easy reach of Aberdeen. Indeed, in recent years, Inverurie’s population has swelled as it has become a popular home for Aberdeen commuters.

The area around Inverurie is steeped in Scottish history, particularly important battles. The town itself was founded by an ancestor of Robert the Bruce, who won the important Battle of Barra – sometimes known as the Battle of Inverurie – nearby during the Wars of Scottish Independence, though the battle itself was in fact part of a civil feud. The Easter Aquhorthies is a stone circle just a mile to the west of Inverurie, and dates back to before 2000 BC, while a further four miles to the west is the likely site of the Battle of Mons Graupius, the first known battle fought on Scottish soil, where Roman troops defeated an army of ‘Scottish’ Caledonians in either 83 or 84 AD.

The A96 trunk road links Inverurie to Aberdeen, about 16 miles to the southeast, and Inverurie railway station runs trains on the Aberdeen to Inverness line. The nearest airport is Aberdeen International Airport, which runs flights to a number of European destinations, as well as internally within the UK.
