About Doha

Overview

Rebuilt in the 1970s, the multicultural capital of Qatar, Doha is home to most of the country’s population. The city is capitalising on its new-found wealth and combines a stunning skyline with beautiful desert landscapes in a bid to become a globally-recognised tourist destination. Our Doha serviced apartments are the perfect option for when you choose to stay in the sparkling new capital.

Doha does not boast a long timeline of history. After years of economic gloom and suffering under different ruling countries, Doha eventually benefited from the discovery of oil and natural gas reserves. Midway through the twentieth century oil and gas production began, and Doha become one of the richest cities in the region. The ending of a British Protectorate over the city meant Qatar could announce its independence in September 1971. Doha became its official capital city. Since, the city’s status as business capital has only continued to grow. Situ provides Doha corporate accommodation for those who are looking to join the other thousands of overseas nationals who have opted to live in this prosperous capital.

PLACES TO SEE

Although it seems that Doha has completely reinvented itself over recent decades, some areas of the capital still refer to its old Arabian past. You can gain a sense of country’s past at the Souq Waqif, Qatar’s historic marketplace. The market suffered from a period of decline and a devastating fire. The site was then restored with regard for traditional Qatari architectural techniques. Along with its attractive history, the souq is also a great place to shop, dine and explore. Another interesting place to explore is the Falcon Souq, a place of falconry in Qatari society. It represents a part of the city’s heritage and its societal values. Our Doha city apartments are only a fifteen minutes bus or car journey from these traditional attractions.

The city prides itself of having a range of majestic, stunning museums too. The main one being the Museum of Islamic Art. The museum takes you through a journey of fourteen centuries of history in the space of few hours. It houses one of greatest Islamic art collections in the world. Another expression of Qatar’s culture comes from the ‘7’ sculpture by Richard Serra. At 24 meters tall, the artwork looks out to the Gulf. It has spiritual importance in Qatari and Islamic culture and exemplifies the lifestyles of the capital’s people. Based upon the stunning Doha Port, the sculpture is not far from our Doha city apartments.

MODERNISATION

It’s difficult to avoid though the futuristic, modern aspects of Doha. With the country preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022, the capital has become a centre for renovation. Doha has an immensely fast-growing economy and is the greatest exporter of natural gas in the world. As a result, less than 1% of the capital’s population are unemployed and none of its two million residents live below the poverty line. There’s no surprise there is plenty of Doha corporate accommodation options available for its visitors.

Hotel Park optimises this city wealth. Lying in the centre of Doha’s business district, the Park combines both huge skyscrapers with urban greenery. Hosting many popular festival and community events, the Hotel Park is an important landmark on Qatar’s social calendar. It’s the ideal location for business travellers to book apartment hotels and corporate accommodation for their stay in Doha. Corniche, the waterfront of Doha, also provides a glimpse of the city’s riches. The area provides picturesque views and a perfect chance to view Doha’s collection of futuristic, magnificent towers. The ultramodern beauty and business potential is never far away from our Doha serviced apartments.

Doha's originality comes from its ability to mix both the ever-growing consumerism with a sense of religious and historic conservatism. Even if your booking short term accommodation for your stay in Doha, there’s still enough time to embrace how this capital has become what it is today.

Transport

Hamad International Airport (DOH)

Buses operated by Qatar’s state transport company Mowasalat provide connections from the airport to various destinations across Doha. Fares can only be paid for with a Karwa Smartcard, which can be purchased from the Mowasalat Information Desk near Baggage Claim Belt 5 & 6.

Mowasalat Buses

With the capital awaiting the production of their new metro system, in the meantime Mowasalat run an impressive bus network that covers the whole of Doha.

Most fare payments are now made with a prepaid Karwa Smartcard. Although traditional fares can still be made, paying 30QR card for your trip seems to be better value for money.
