About Chesterfield

Overview

Chesterfield’s skyline is dominated by a twisted church spire, evidence of something that went badly wrong in the past! However, the town has so much potential and so much to be excited about for the future.

Why Choose Chesterfield Serviced Apartments?

Serviced apartments are increasingly becoming the go-to accommodation choice for business travellers. Even a one-bedroom Chesterfield apartment is typically much larger and more spacious than a room in a prestigious hotel, while the rental price is also reasonable. A Chesterfield serviced apartment is much more of a ‘home from home’ than a hotel. Guests can expect to have at their disposal a fully equipped kitchen, on-site washing machines, spacious living areas, their own allocated parking spaces, as well as free wi-fi.

It’s also easier to hold business meetings - or meetings with family and friends - in a newly refurbished Situ serviced apartment. It’s possible to stay in a Chesterfield apartment right in the town centre too, close to all the local amenities, or in a quieter cul de sac location away from the centre – it's entirely up to you.

Ultimately, the key to the success of Chesterfield is how flexible they are, meaning bookers and corporates can pick and choose to eventually end up staying in a property that is truly perfect for them.

Where is Chesterfield?

Chesterfield is located in the north-eastern corner of Derbyshire, close to the county’s borders with South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. The town has a population of just over 100,000. It is nine miles from Sheffield and 23 miles from both Derby and Nottingham. A little further afield are Manchester (37 miles) and Birmingham (57 miles).

The town is served by a north-south rail route from Sheffield to London and an east-west route from Liverpool to Norwich, while also being situated close to the M1. The stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park lies just a few miles to the west.

Business in Chesterfield

Manufacturing is an important part of the local economy, including the production of automotive parts and food and drink. Engineering and science and technology also have a presence, and with the proximity of the Peak District, tourism also contributes to the local economy. Chesterfield Borough Council is preparing a new visitor economy strategy and action plan.

Business people in Chesterfield could benefit from the support offered by the following organisations:

  • East Midlands Chamber – which seeks to connect business to the funding, skills, new people, expert help and advice they require. It hosts hundreds of networking and social events every week of the year.
  • Destination Chesterfield – which seeks to promote the town as a promising destination for inward investment.
  • North East Derbyshire Business Network – where attendees can give a 30-second introduction, and can then network in a more informal setting.

For whatever reason you are visiting the city, whether it is for a small networking event or to relocate your company, just remember there are many high-standard, corporate Chesterfield apartments available that can cater for your business travel needs.

Things to Do in Chesterfield

Staying in a Chesterfield serviced apartment grants guests the opportunity to work freely and enjoy periods of leisure, with most of the town within walking distance. The skyline of Chesterfield is dominated by the crooked spire of the Parish Church of St Mary and All Saints. Occasional guided tours of the spire are available – check with the tourist information office first. As for why the spire is twisted – the locals will tell you it’s either due to the weight of the lead tiles used during construction, or it’s the effect of a huge sneeze emitted by the Devil, irritated by the smell of incense rising from the church!

Barrow Hill claims to be the last surviving railway roundhouse in the United Kingdom with an operational turntable. Today it is a railway museum with a display of steam and diesel locomotives, an active signal box and an active branch line for railway excursions. It also hosts an annual Rail Ale Beer & Music Festival.

The ‘green lung’ right in the heart of the town is Queen’s Park, with its lake, conservatory, bandstand and play areas. Its cricket ground is nothing short of idyllic, and Derbyshire County Cricket Club still play two first-team matches at the Park every year. Some of the most highly regarded restaurants in Chesterfield are those offering Mediterranean cuisine of various types. There’s Odyssey, a Greek restaurant; Sicily, for a taste of Italy; Stuffed Olive, for Turkish cuisine; and Cocina, which claims to offer a pan-Mediterranean menu.

During the dayStephensons Tea and Coffee House offer fantastic coffee and cakes in a wonderful old world building adjacent to the Crooked Spire. Every May, the Chesterfield Area Walking Festival hosts guided walks that showcase both the best of the local countryside and the town’s industrial heritage. The ‘Father of the Railways’, George Stephenson, spent the last 10 years of his life living in Chesterfield and is buried, with his wife, at the altar of Holy Trinity Church in the town.
