About Chertsey

Overview

Chertsey serviced apartments are a great option for London commuters, based in a location which benefits from the open spaces of Surrey, also ideally close to the capital.

About Chertsey

Rich with history and abundant in open spaces, Chertsey is a Surrey town based within the Greater London Urban Area and the Borough of Runnymede. The town provides an idyllic near-capital option for commuters and business travellers, also making for an ideal location for serviced apartments.

In fact, our Chertsey aparthotels are ideally located, lying close to the town’s railway station which ultimately links to destinations along the Waterloo to Reading Line. Much of Chertsey itself also nestles between the M3 and M25 motorways which enable routine car travel to the likes of London, Slough, Farnborough, Basingstoke and Guildford and other business hubs further afield.

CHERTSEY BUSINESS & ECONOMY

Although much of the success of Chertsey comes from its familiar status as a ‘commuter town’, the local population and their council have also shown intent to put the town on the map. The town is already the location of choice for a wide range of both large and small businesses due to its close vicinity to Heathrow airport and the M25, M3 and M4 roads.

For instance, it is for these reasons that, despite Chertsey’s rustic feel, the UK head offices of Samsung and Compass Group are both based there. Big companies such as these choosing to locate themselves in the town naturally increases the number of businesspeople relocating there, the number of new start-up companies and the volume of Chertsey corporate accommodation.

The Chertsey Town Centre ‘Masterplan’ does, however, reveal much of the plans of the Runnymede Borough Council (RBC) and Surrey County Council (SCC) to build on what the area already has in terms of business and economic credentials. Ongoing developments include strengthening Chertsey's gateways to the town centre and key areas, enhancing and making the full use of green spaces, formulating true public realms and improving the services offered by the town's sole train station.

The future is bright for Chertsey, but its ongoing developments are also enough to encourage corporates and companies to travel to the town to complete any form of business undertaking. Furthermore, the best way to profit from these exciting developments and the present business climate qualities is to stay in Chertsey corporate housing.

HISTORY

The town history is known to be born out of the establishment of the Benedictine monastery, Chertsey Abbey, in the year 666. It was at this point that evidence of human activity was most common, despite archaeological evidence suggesting the area was occupied as early as 4,500 BC. The site where the abbey once stood remains intact to this day and was the starting point for the town’s initial growth. Around the time that the town was described as ‘Certesi’ in the medieval Domesday Book, the abbey was growing to become one of the largest of its kind in England.

Expansion and local developments then instigated the construction of the historic landmark, Chertsey Bridge, opened in 1785. It provided, and continues to provide an important link over the River Thames between Chertsey and Shepperton, despite suffering regular dilapidation and resurgence. Similarly, important for the town was the introduction of the railway in the mid-nineteenth century. It proved to be a catalyst for rapid residential development and significant population increase, resulting in the what we know as Chertsey today.

To be in touch with the area’s charming history and nearby some historic sites, such as ‘The George’ pub, the Bridge or the Chertsey Museum, book a stay in comfortable Chertsey furnished housing depending on a location that best suits you!

ACTIVITIES

Whilst Chertsey is known as a home for some major business headquarters and a large commuter population, the town is also favourable as a place of freedom. A prime example of this is the esteem shown towards Thorpe Park Resort, which is only a ten-minute drive north from the centre of Chertsey. Nearly two million people visit the lively, colourful resort each year, and Chertsey’s close vicinity makes the town a go-to place to stay for fans of the amusement park. Those looking for somewhere convenient and comfortable to stay briefly whilst exploring Thorpe Park need not look further than our range of Chertsey short term accommodation.

It is also important to remember that Chertsey encompasses a unique, distinctive character. With a large number of houses over two hundred years old, the town maintains an old-world appeal loved by residents and visitors alike. Forming part of this appeal too are the already mentioned, Chertsey Bridge and the site of the former Abbey, both iconic sites sharing over 1,500 years’ worth of Chertsey history.

As well as these well-worth visiting sites, visitors to the area for a longer duration, staying in Chertsey extended stay apartments, should take some time to stop by the Chertsey Museum. Within the museum history enthusiasts can learn about the town’s past, as well as the Runnymede area, inspecting different exhibits relating to social, artistic and national aspects of history related to the town. The site sits just outside of the Abbey grounds, making for a great day out option.

All in all, Situ’s Chertsey temporary housing offer a flexible, private space for corporate travellers looking to stay longer in this popular commuter town. These apartments provide a secure environment, in a place right where guests need to be, just outside one of the biggest business hubs in Europe.
