Just across the river from Boston, Cambridge was named after the world-renowned UK university, but became home to some world-renowned educational institutions of its own.
The city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, lies on the north bank of the Charles River, and looks across to Boston on the other side. It forms a part of the Greater Boston Metropolis. Cambridge is probably best known for its educational institutions, particularly Harvard University and MIT, but also has plenty of other things to offer the corporate traveller coming to stay in serviced apartments in Cambridge.
Initially an agricultural town, Cambridge started to industrialise in the early nineteenth century when bridges were built to link it to nearby Boston. Since then, its growth has been connected to that of the nearby port and the centre of Cambridge is today a highly urbanised area, albeit with a softer feel than its larger neighbour . Education and innovation have, however, always helped Cambridge stand a little apart, and in recent times has led to numerous technology employers moving into the city. These include; Google, Microsoft and pharmaceutical company Novartis, among others.
As one might expect in a city with education and learning in its very DNA, Cambridge has a number of excellent museums for the visitor to enjoy. But for those looking for something else, the Charles Riverboat tours, theatre visits and various seasonal events can also be enjoyed. Logan International Airport is the closest way to fly in, and getting around the area is usually most convenient using the MBTA rail and subway service, with the Red and Green lines running through Cambridge.
